About Machine Head

Machine Head is an American heavy metal band from Oakland, California. The band was formed in 1991 by vocalist/rhythm guitarist Robb Flynn and bassist Adam Duce. The band’s aggressive musicianship made them one of the pioneering bands in the new wave of American heavy metal. Machine Head’s current lineup comprises Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern; longtime drummer Dave McClain and lead guitarist Phil Demmel will leave the band following their current tour. – Source

Show notes

First and foremost, it’s important to note that – as mentioned above – Dave and Phil are exiting the band after this run. Machine Head will live on, however, just with a different lineup. That being said, the band is currently touring in support of its latest album, Catharsis. And they’re doing this one all by themselves! No opening act, just Machine Head and 3 face-melting hours of their greatest tunes.

No, that’s not a typo. Yes, you read that right.

A 3-hour set.

Good GOD, I’m gonna feel that show in my back from a few days to come.

As I sit here typing this post, sore and tired from last night’s show, it’s safe to say that Machine Head still knows how to rock a crowd. They tore through their discography last night and kept attendees headbanging the entire time.

Unfortunately, I was limited to shooting only the first three songs from the pit. And I think Robb Flynn may have spit on me. I’m not sure if it was intentional, or not. I won’t hold it against him either way.

This show was a makeup show. The band was forced to cancel a show at Wooly’s back in February due to Robb having a 7-week long lung infection.

I’d say they more than made up for it with their set last night.
